We ate one night at a place called Saltwater Cowboys (very good) . Also there was a guy that sold fresh shrimp at the campground dock on the ICW so , we had that one night .
Definitely would go back ...

RE: How do you haul your bicycles in your toyhauler?

I also used the "bike tites" but , mounted them into the eTrack in the garage . If I am hauling the motorcycles they get removed and mounted in the bed of the truck on my kayak rack . They work great and are very verastile ...

RE: Back door to deck

Jack stands work great but , I had a circumstance where I was backed up on a waterfront campsite where the back of the campsite dropped off too much to use jack stands .
I have since got a set of cables to use just in case ...

Bahia Honda is real nice if you can get a spot . More things to do without traveling ...

Knight's Key is a neat place as well . A little quieter than Bahia Honda (no traffic noise off the bridge) and closer to some pretty cool eateries in Marathon .

RE: Fort Lauderdale Short Stay?? Any Recommendations??

I would suggest one of the county parks in the area . CB Smith in Pembroke Pines may be the closest . We like John Prince in Lake Worth better but , it would be further from Ft. Lauderdale . There also is one in Sunrise called Markham Park . Never stayed there but , it may be the closest . Good luck ...

RE: Fla. Keys restaurant recommendations please

In the lower keys Bobalu's Southern Cafe (seafood pizza) , in Marathon The 7 Mile Grill and also Porky's Bayside BBQ ( great ribs and deep fried key lime pie not to mention The Rocketman performing several nights a week ) and The Keys Fisheries (lobster ruebens are something special) , Pepe's (good steak) and The Turtle Kralls (waterfront dining) in Key West . All good places ...

RE: Where to go for the very best Ribs?????

My short list of notable rib joints ...
Tom Jenkins in Ft. Lauderdale ( the best sauce I have eaten ) .
Georgia Pig in Brunswick , GA .
Porky's Bayside in Marathon, FL Keys ( not expecting much but , was pleasantly surprised )
Memphis Blues in Mechanicsburg , PA .
These are all really good but , some of the best are the ones (not bragging :B) I have been making at home , smoked low and slow for six hours ...

RE: Bahia Honda vs John Pennekamp

We had reservations for Bahia Honda in May . #17 waterfront to be exact but, come January I was chomping at the bit to find some warmth so I did some research on here and on rvparkreviews.com and came up with Knight's Key as an alternative . Yes it is more costly than BH and yes it probably won't be around for much longer due to development but , we had a great time there while we were there . It is located at the end of the 7 mile bridge in Marathon . About 10 miles to Bahia Honda to get to the beach . There is a very nice beach in Marathon but , I don't know anything about that one . ;)
This was our site ...

I think the toll was $30 or so from Ft. Pierce to the Keys . Small price to pay to avoid I95 south of West Palm Beach IMHO ...

RE: Average MPH

Another vote for averaging 50 mph ...
Usually try to do 65-70 traffic permitting .
More than 10-11 hours in the truck is a lot .
With that said we make the trip to the West Palm Beach area in 2 days without too much trouble .

RE: Cost of having fun

We just returned from a 2 1/2 week trip to the FLA Keys , about 3000 mile round trip .
Averaged about 10 mpg using about 300 gallons of fuel at an average price near $4 / gallon , about $1200 in fuel . $5 diesel may not stop me from doing it again but , $6 might .
I can go to Cape Hatteras or Myrtle Beach on about 100 gallons and that would make a lot more sense economically . However there is still something to be said for sitting in a bar in Key West in early March , Rumrunner in hand, watching TWC's Mike Seidel standing outside Cleveland in 20" of snow . That is priceless ...

RE: Del-Raton RV Park in Del-Ray Beach, Florida

We were in Delray Beach a couple years ago and if I am not mistaken we went by Del-Raton RV Park ( on Federal Hwy. ) but , I think it looked like mostly permanent residents . I could be wrong but, that was my impression . We stayed at John Prince Park (a county park in Lake Worth , a couple miles up 95 from Delray Beach) a few times and like that a lot .

RE: Bahia Honda ,we're booked

Site #48 was one of my picks for a good site if I couldn't get waterfront . It is on the end of the row with lots of vegetation .
We were lucky enough to be waterfront on #18 this year and we got #17 for 2 weeks next May . We are getting progressively closer to the holy grail of campsites the elusive #15 .
